Capcom scaled its versus formula up to sheer delirium: two-man tag teams with switch-ins, split-screen hyper combos, and a hidden third support fighter selectable from a roster of twenty-odd cameos, from Lou of Three Wonders to Shadow Lady. It ran on CPS-2 hardware pushed to its absolute limit, with sprite work that's still a masterclass in animation. War Machine and the giant Venom turned every match into a moving 90s poster.
