Speedball 2: Brutal Deluxe arrived in 1990 for Amiga and Atari ST, published by Mirrorsoft and Image Works, as a direct sequel to Speedball. It kept the no-holds-barred futuristic handball but added a management layer: between matches, you can sign players, upgrade their stats, and build your own squad, which deepened the long-term hook considerably. The music, composed by Simon Rogers and remixed and programmed by Richard Joseph, took home the Golden Joystick for Best Soundtrack of 1991. Amiga Power magazine voted it the third-best game of all time, and to this day it's held up as the Bitmap Brothers' most complete work and one of the finest sports games the 16-bit era produced, thanks to a rare balance between immediate action and mid-term progression.
