Level-5 turned the riddles of Professor Akira Tago — a Japanese psychologist famous for his mental-gymnastics books, which sold millions of copies — into an adventure styled after European animated cinema. Every resident of Saint-Mystère pays for their answers in puzzles, absurd and charming in equal measure. Its animated cutscenes, produced by P.A. Works, and its careful dubbing raised the bar for handheld production values. It launched a saga built on gentlemen and enigmas.
