The pack-in game par excellence for the Atari 2600, Combat gathers twenty-seven two-player duel variants with tanks, biplanes, and speedboats, all played out on a single non-scrolling screen. Its radical simplicity is also its genius: no explanation needed for two people to start facing off within seconds. Probably the first video game millions of people ever played in their lives, simply because it came free with the console.
