The R&D1 team, direct heir to Gunpei Yokoi, distilled the video game down to its bare essence: five-second microgames where you have to figure out the rule while you're already playing it. 9-Volt's stages are an interactive museum of Nintendo history, packed with relics like the Game & Watch and the Ultra Hand, the toy Yokoi invented back in 1966. A franchise was born, and with it a whole philosophy of chaos.
